Women’s Division Two Play-Off
New Ross Town 2 Kiltealy Celtic 1
This much delayed divisional play-off brought the curtain down on the 2019-20 season when the two very evenly matched sides met in Bree on Sunday morning. Last Sunday saw Kiltealy lift the Boland Carpets Cup with a comprehensive win over Fastnet while New Ross Town were coming down to earth after their brave performance in the Wexford Cup final where they lost to Forth Celtic. After a very evenly contested and scoreless first half where both sides cancelled each other out burst into life in the second half when Kellie O Neill scored to put Town in front. Kiltealy showed their determined character and bounced back with an equaliser when Ciara Roban sent an unstoppable free kick to the roof of the net from twenty metres out. Kiltealy had their chance to go in front when awarded a penalty but their spot kick was off target and Ross capitalised on this missed opportunity when the experienced Marcella Cullen shot to the net with eight minutes to secure the league title. These two clubs will be heading up to Division One for the new season and both are well capable of challenging for honours at the higher level especially coming off the back of a successful campaign. League Secretary Martin Cahill presented the league trophy to the winning squad to spark off an evening of celebrations
