Women’s Division Three Play Off
Shelburne United 6 Wexford Bohs 4
Shelburne looked to have this division wrapped up as early as last January but a cup run, a pandemic and an 1-0 defeat away to Wexford Bohs delayed their title win until today and after last weeks surprise cup defeat to Cushinstown, they were in no mood to mess up in this play-off. The Ballywilliam girls took control early in the game but found a hard working Bohs defence difficult to break down but they did manage to knock one in just before half time when Jackie Carr found the net. The goals flowed thick and fast in the second half with Shelburne going 3-0 up before Bohs pulled one back, then led 5-1 before the Wexford girls scored their second. At 6-2, it looked comfortable for the eventual winners but Bohs made them sweat scoring twice before time eventually ran out on them and they rounded off a massive season for the senior section of the club where their men’s teams won Division Three and Five, their Youths won Division Two and now the Women secured the Division Three title. It would have been a great dinner dance if one had been allowed but I am sure this victory was still well celebrated. An Eimear Murphy hat trick and a goal each from Kate O Keefe and Niamh Higgins rounded off the Shelburne tally while Diane Leniston, Suzy Byrne and two from Denise Leniston all scored for Bohs. League committee member Barry Dempsey presented the league trophy to the jubilant captain and many thanks to Tombrack United for hosting this play-off at late notice
