Women’s League Round-Up

Ferns remain on course for a treble when they overcame Seaview 2-1 in the Wexford Women’s Cup semi final on Sunday. Two goals from Aoibhinn Myers had Ferns 2-0 up at half time but a Ciara Ryan goal set up a thrilling finish as Seaview pressed hard for an equaliser. Ferns did enough to hang on and are through to their fourth final in a row.

In the other semi final, Forth Celtic were much too strong for Division One side St Josephs and ran out 14-0 winners with goals from Natasha Byrne Rossiter (5), Sarah Siggins (4), Laura Stafford (2) while Ashling O Sullivan, Rianna Cullen and Niamh Taylor Hughes added one each. It was Forth’s ability to take their chances that was the main difference between the sides and St Josephs did compete much better than the scoreline suggests.

In the Boland Carpets Cup semi-final, Bunclody travelled to Fastnet Rovers and booked their place in the final with a 2-1 win. Mikayla Farrell and Hayley Browne saw Bunclody go 2-0 up with five minutes to go and although Amy Gleeson pulled one back for the home side with three minutes to go, the visitors defended well and held on for the win. Wexford Bohs continued their good season and boked their place in the Gaynor Cup Final when coming away from Cushinstown 3-1 winners. Amanda Power was on target for Cushinstown but two goals from Aliat Kotun and one from Kiera Byrne saw Bohs through to the final
