Schoolgirls Round-Up

The Wexford schoolgirls league underage tournament is closing in on the knockout stages with several more group games played at several age groups over the past week. At Under Thirteen level, New Ross Town and Campile United have both qualified for the league knockout stage but do have one game left against each other to decide final placings, it is hoped that game will be played this week while Corach Ramblers are through to the Shield stage of the competition. Group B is much tighter with Moyne, Bridge and Curracloe all in contention for the league section after Curracloe beat Rosslare Rangers 1-0 on Saturday. Rangers will be playing in the Shield. Goals from Avenn Kavanagh (4), Kate Tomkins (3) and Kate Hendy (1) saw Gorey Rangers beat Arklow Town 8-1 and qualify for the league knock out winning all three of their group games. Clare Ginty was on target for Town. Aughrim Rangers also made it through to the league section after a scoreless draw with Coolboy gave them the point they needed to qualify. Coolboy and Arklow will take part in the Shield knockout section.

Thursday evening will see Corach Ramblers will entertain Cushinstown in Under Seventeen Group A and a point will be enough to see Cushinstown qualify for the league semi final while a win for Corach will see the group go down to goal difference with New Ross Celtic also in the mix. Curracloe have qualified for the semi final of the league from Group B with Bunclody going through to the Shield while in Group C, Aughrim are looking strong as a 8-0 win over Coolboy saw them qualify for the league semi final as group winners. Goals from Laci May Shannon, Willow Jordan (2), Olivia Shannon (3) and Emma Keenan saw Aughrim take all three points. Arklow Town and Coolboy Rangers qualify for the Shield from this group.

Sunday saw Corach make the long journey to Kilkenny for their Under Twelve Group A game and made it a worthwhile trip as they ran out 5-1 winners
