Under Thirteen Gaynor Cup Qualifier

Wexford Schoolgirls League   2          MGL North (Dublin)    1

The FAI Gaynor Cup Inter League qualifiers returned to action on Saturday with Wexford taking on MGL North in All Blacks on a pitch in perfect condition despite the week of wet weather. Wexford started strong and were rewarded when Polly Redmond shot to the net to give them a deserved lead and she was unlucky not to make it 2-0 when her shot came back off the post. MGL were back on level terms when awarded a penalty just before half time, which they duly converted. Wexford continued to press forward and early in the second half and went back in front when Zara Corrigan got on the end of a Katlyn Conroy cross to shoot to the net. This time the home side were in no mood to let this lead slip and held on for a vital win that keeps them unbeaten and well in contention to top the group with two games remaining. First of those is away to NECSL next Sunday with the final game at home to Louth in late September

Squad: Isabel Morris, Caoimhe Carley, Nicole Murphy, Rebecca Power, Alexa Clancy, Zara Corrigan, Olivia Shannon, Ciara Murphy, Aoife McEldowney, Katlyn Conroy, Polly Redmond, Naomi Denton, Issy Walsh, Grace Tully, Keelin Barron, Grace Walsh, Moya Corbett, Izzy Kenna. Under Fifteen Gaynor Qualifier

Wexford Schoolgirls League   2          MGL North (Dublin)    3

This five goal thriller produced a top class entertaining game of football with the Dublin league breaking the hearts of the Wexford with a scrambled goal. MGL took the lead early in the game and could have went 2-0 ahead when awarded a penalty but the spot kick missed the target. However, minutes later they capitalised on their possession to score again to lead 2-0 before Wexford finally found their rhythm and Emma Rossiter scored just before half time to give them a lifeline

A much improved performance in the second half saw Wexford push forward in search of an equaliser and were rewarded when Laci Jane Shannon raced into the penalty area and calmly slotted the ball past the advancing keeper. Both sides went in search of the winner and the game looked to be heading for a draw until Wexford failed to clear an MGL corner and the visitors scrambled the ball into the net for what proved to be the winner. Wexford were disappointed but can be proud of the character shown in this game and now travel to NECSL next Saturday for a must win game
