Wexford FC have advised by the FAI Disciplinary Committee that the club was found in breach of Clause 14.14 of the Participation Agreement, i.e. of playing an ineligible player in last Friday's home match against Shelbourne.

The player in question was Under 17 goalkeeper, whom the club had applied to register to the senior squad last week in advance of the game, when it became known that the first team goalkeeper was ill.  Regrettably, the club were advised that it was too late to do so and due to an administrative error, this information was not passed on to the team management.

Consequently, the club has been fined and the points awarded to Shelbourne.

The club has apologised to the team management, players and supporters

The team had come from 1-0 behind to earn a point against the Dublin side when Danny Doyle scored a second half goal. However, when the match card arrived in the National League office it came to light that the clubs Under Seventeen keeper Calum Feeney was not registered to play with the Senior squad and so was deemed ineligible
